Here is what our friend Ian had to say
Ian wrote:
Well... this is it guys. The it passed the house last week, it's going to vote in the senate on Wednesday, so far, there are no motions to override, so it should go smoothly. We'll know if it's law by Wednesday. Fingers crossed!

Now, on to the details.
tC, xA, xD owners. According to the law, you will be allowed to tint 35% all around, or up to 30% in back and 50% up front, or as dark as you want in back with nothing up front.

1st and 2nd gen xB owners... unfortunately, due to the stock privacy glass, we fall under the SUV/MPV category. That means that we're limited to 50% up front. Now, before anyone says that we're registered as a standard car, yes, that is true, however, I got in touch with one of my people at Toyota corp and they were able to confirm that the stock privacy glass is darkened to 20%. So yea, 50% is as dark as we can go up front.

I'm thinking I'll do 50% up front and a windshield strip at 20%. Should darken the car enough.

And before anyone says 'screw it, I'm gonna go 5% anyway', don't be a douche. This law is one of the most lenient out there, play by the rules here.

This does not match what Ian have said.

I can tint my front windows as dark as 50%. Or 35% if the back is also tinted.

Am I correct or is Ian.

I actually read the whole Bill with all the amendments again and Ian is right.

It didn't make sense to me either until i read through the whole bill. Ian has it correct. Since I have an xB, i can only have 50% or less on the front sides :weepy:

The word on the street is that it is in effect now. ITS NOT.

Here is the official Law in illinois
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs/ilcs4.asp?DocName=062500050HCh%2E+12+Art%2E+V&ActID=1815&ChapAct=625%26nbsp%3BILCS%26nbsp%3B5%2F&ChapterID=49&ChapterName=VEHICLES&SectionID=59764&SeqStart=129100000&SeqEnd=129600000&ActName=Illinois+Vehicle+Code%2E

Scroll down to (625 ILCS 5/12‑503).

Until it changes here you have no case. Sorry. Be careful.

All the websites I'm looking at still say that front are illegal.

Then there is this

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/96/HB/09600HB4653.htm

and the bill status. it says effective immediately

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/BillSta ... SpecSess=0

So does this mean we need to print this out and keep it in the glove box?

If you are thinking about doing the front tints, i would def. keep a copy of that in your glove box because who knows how quickly the officers know. Better to be on the safe side
